Department of Interior
The Mission of the Department of the Interior is to protect and provide access to our Nation's natural and cultural heritage and honor our trust responsibilities to Indian Tribes and our commitments to island communities.

Bureau of Land Management
The BLM administers 264 million acres of public lands, most of it in the western states and manages mineral rights underlying 564 million acres of public lands. Founded in 1946 by combining the General Land Office with the Grazing Service, the BLM was considered a "multiple use" agency focusing on grazing and the development of timber and mineral resources.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
The USFWS mission is to work with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The USFWS manages the National Wildlife Refuge System which is made up of more than 520 refuges encompassing 93 million-plus acres.

National Park Service
The NPS manages the National Park System comprised of 391 areas covering more than 84 million acres. These areas include national parks, monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, and the White House.

Bureau of Reclamation
The Bureau of Reclamation was established to construct federal irrigation projects in the arid West which provide recreation, fish and wildlife conservation. Recreational uses of the Bureau's lakes and reservoirs are usually regulated by other federal or state agencies.

U.S. Geological Survey
As an unbiased, multi-disciplinary science organization that focuses on biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water.

U.S. Forest Service
National forests comprise the second largest area of public lands: over 193 million acres. There are 155 national forests in the nation. In addition to national forests, USFS also administers 20 national grasslands covering four million acres.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
NOAA through the National Marine Fisheries Service and National Ocean Service manages
12 marine sanctuaries protecting kelp forests, coral reefs, and open ocean habitats and 21 reserves on state-owned lands that include habitats such as salt marshes, mangrove forests, and beaches.

Department of Energy
Grazing and limited public access is allowed on some of the 2.4 million acres of the Department of Energy's 50 major sites. The larger sites are in the West and include oil reserves and cleanup sites.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
The Corps of Engineers administers 490 recreation areas encompassing approximately 11.7 million acres of public land and water throughout the U.S.

The mission of the Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and the environment. Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people.
